FEATURE Professor Chak-sing Lau, Chair Professor and Daniel CK Yu Professor in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, has taken the reins at HKUMed during one of its most dynamic periods ever. The Faculty is in full expansion mode, with growth happening across all dimensions – physical space, staff and student numbers, research activity, teaching and learning, and regional collaboration. Professor Lau’s task is to bring these developments to fruition and realise the Faculty’s ambitions as it consolidates its globally leading position. HKUMed has attained the highest ever ranking of 13th in the subject of Clinical and Health in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, moving up seven places from 20th last year, also a historic high. In addition, 24 HKUMed scholars were named in Clarivate Analytics’ 2022 Highly Cited Researchers, surpassing the record-high of 17 last year. Professor Lau is taking on that challenge with his sleeves rolled up, his door wide open and his feet planted firmly on the ground.
