EY1920 Year Book

3 2 Messages from our Partners We believe that the benefit of a high quality undergraduate international experience extends far beyond academic advantages, allowing HKU MBBS students to enrich their understanding of other cultures, to broaden horizons and develop a profound appreciation of the truly international nature of modern biomedicine in their Enrichment Year. We also believe that this enrichment works in both directions: the inclusion of HKU MBBS students within our intercalating cohort provides a window into life, study and medicine in an international context for our own students too, and we aim to foster friendships between the two groups which will extend into their professional careers. We have been hugely impressed by the calibre of the HKU MBBS students who have joined our Medical School and are proud of their many achievements. We are committed to providing visiting MBBS students, during their Enrichment Year, from HKU with not only an excellent educational experience to get their careers off to a strong start, but also a warm welcome and hospitality befitting the years of friendship between our Schools. Prof Matthew Walters Head of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing Prof Thomas Evans Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Director of Intercalated Studies Dr William Miller Senior Lecturer and co-Director of Intercalated Studies We are delighted to welcome HKU MBBS students to Bristol for their Enrichment Year, and are very proud of the relationship we have. Your bright and enquiring minds are a welcome addition to any classroom, and your hard work is an example to us all. You help us to create, and preserve, the rich and international learning environment that we are so proud of at Bristol, and from which we all benefit. The intercalation experience at Bristol is all about research and academic enquiry. The fresh ideas that many of you brought with you, and the way in which you undertook your research, have impressed us all, and the results you achieved is testimony to your hard work and perseverance. We hope that you will take fond memories of Bristol away with you. The friends you have made, and the relationships you have built – alongside the skills you have learned - may form the bedrock of future international research collaborations that change the face of medicine. Yes, we do have high hopes for you all. We will miss you, and on behalf of all us here, we wish you luck in your future studies and careers. You are welcome back any time. While I was completing my BSc in University of Bristol, the detailed complexity of our sophisticated nervous system that was untold in my preclinical course left me with fascination and eye-opening inspirations. The intercalated course also allowed me to keep abreast of the new information about the latest discoveries from neuroscience researches. When I was completing my MSc in Microbiology at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine during the Enrichment Year, I have the chances to acquire knowledge that I never have the opportunity to learn from my undergraduate courses.
