BSTC1003 Introduction to Religious Studies – a study of themes and figures common to all religions. 2. EASC1020 Introduction to Climate Science – a study of climate change and factors that have shaped it in the past Mya (million years ago). 3. EASC1403 Geological Heritage of Hong Kong – a study of rocks, land formations, and locations in HK. This was the only course that was not completely online – a field trip to analyze local geological features was required (photos in the center). 4. BIOL1110 From Molecules to Cells – in-depth study of biochemistry in the human body. 5. PHYS1055 How Things Work – a study of physic’s role in daily objects and phenomenon. HKU E le c t i ve s ( S em 2 ) REFLECTION I had a wonderful experience the first semester in Shanghai studying acupuncture. Not only did I learn some basics of TCM and its application in treatment, I also met some amazing classmates from all around the world – Switzerland, South Africa, Spain, Lithuania, India and more – and I was exposed to different perspectives on alternative medicine and its role in treatment compared to Western medicine. However, the second course was cancelled due to COVID-19, and I remained in Hong Kong to take HKU electives online. This change in plans happened right around the add/drop period, so I could only choose what classes were left available. Nevertheless, I did enjoy taking a break from medicine, and I particularly enjoyed the course on geology – it allowed me to view the geography and geology of Hong Kong with new eyes. Despite the change in plans, which was very disappointing, I tried my best to adapt given the situation – we can make the best plans but there will always be circumstances we cannot predict and control. This year challenged my ability to adapt and be flexible – this is so important in today’s society and current pandemic, and it will continue to be important in the future.
