ENRICHMENT YEAR Herman Chun Chung CHENG 3035389857 Intercalation at University of Bristol BSc Clinical Sciences WHAT WAS THE COURSE ABOUT? In this course, I learnt about the different approaches used to integrate scientific discoveries into clinical practice. Lectures were given by university researchers as well as clinicians on the scientific basis of disease and various research methods. Also, I have undertaken a research project at the university hospital, with guidance by the university professots and NHS clinicians. WHAT DID I RESEARCH ON? I have undertaken a research project pertinent to osteoarthritis. In this project, I studied the osteoarthritis progression in the hand with insiights from studying extreme high bone mass after receiving training on radiography and statistics. By comparing the radiographic osteoarthritis progression in patients with high bone mass and controls, I attempted to examine a relationship between bone mineral density and osteoarthritis progression. WHAT ELSE OTHER THAN ACADEMICS? In my leisure, I have spet some of my time on extra-curricular activities. For instance, I have joined the mountaineering society, gliding club and photography society of the Students; Union, all of which hae provided the opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Besides, as I settled in, I have acquired the living skills essential to studying abroad, such as cooking, household chores, financial management, to name but a few, from which I have derived great fun.
