PsyMed 25% Item2 25% Item3 25% Item4 25% One year in Glasgow Under the supervision of Professor Hamish McLeod, I participated in the clinical research project entitled "Understanding effort expenditure decisions in people with schizophrenia marked by negative symptoms." No only have I learnt more about clinical presentations and sequelae of schizophrenia, I have also acquired invaluable experiences and skills when collecting data from patients and writing up a to-be-published scientific journal. A wide range of topics have been discussed in the psychological medicine course, namely psychiatric illnesses like depression and delirium, neurological conditions like dysexecutive disorders, and psychophysiology like defence mechanisms and memory problems. Treatments ranging from antipsychotics to cognitive behavioural therapy have been highlighted as well. Different geological concepts like plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes, origin of the Earth, rocks andminerals, to name but a few, were introduced. We alsowent on field trips to gain hands-on experiences on analysing and observing geological features. As an intercalated medical student, we were expected to learn about research methodologies, exploring current research hot topics, reading critically appraising journals, as well as mastering basic statistical concepts like regression and hypothesis testing to better equip ourselves as clinician-scientists to be. ? hku mbbs Enrichment Year Spending a year in the University of Glasgow, undertaking the BSc (MedSci) and geology courses, I have experienced the foreign teaching and learning culture and am ready to utilise what I have gained in my future studies and career.
