In July 2004, the Ministry
of Health (PR China) has commissioned the Medical and Health Research
Network (MHRN) to present an Executive Training Programme in Public
Health Crisis Management for around 30 senior China's medical and
health care officials in Hong Kong.
The programme was specifically
designed for China's health care officials regarding infection control
and risk health management for growing epidemiology. The programme
objective was to provide an intensive state-of-the-art knowledge
and training about options for infection control in the community
as well as in hospital settings. Instructors for the programme were
from the World Health Organization, The University of Hong Kong,
Hospital Authority and the Department of Health.
The programme focused
on topics including infection control measures, medical surveillance
systems within the hospital and the community. Hong Kong’s experience
and efforts in infection control in light of the SARS epidemic,
given its competing priorities and limited resources on public health
issues, were also a major topic of discussion in the executive training
programme.
