3rd Annual Scientific Meeting

Our meeting, held on 30th October 1999 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, was the largest meeting yet, with the greatest number of overseas participants. Obviously, we have had some small measure of success in making known our mission in Hong Kong and internationally! You can find the abstracts of all the papers from the meeting in Volume 7, Number 2 of the Journal of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology.

AGM and EGM

Both meetings were held on 30th October 1999. At the EGM, it was agreed to amend the Constitution, so as to expand the number of Council members from 6 to 10, and to require that one third rather than one half of the Council should retire at each re-election. The new Council was duly elected at the AGM immediately thereafter.

Call for Research Grant Applications

Applications are invited for research grants of up to $50,000 from Institute funds. These grants are intended for low budget-high impact projects that would be able to yield publishable results within one year. Applications should include background, aims, methods, budget, plans for collaboration, expected outcome, and whether you have applied elsewhere for funding for the same project. Preference may be given to applications that promote collaborative work between Institute members, and also to applications that fall within one of the Institute's key areas for development (atherosclerosis, hypertension, hypoxia, myocardial protection). The deadline for applications is the end of January 2000. Experiments funded by the Institute in this round of awards should be completed by the end of December 2000, and successful applicants will be required to submit a report on their work. All publications arising from the funded projects must acknowledge the financial support of the Institute. Enquiries and applications to Dr. H.J. Ballard, Honorary Secretary, ICSM, Department of Physiology, Li Shu Fan Building, 5 Sassoon Road, Hong Kong.
