Research Projects
Study of a Novel Cell Entry Pathway for Enterovirus Infection

Programme(s) to which this project applies:

☒ MPhil/PhD ☑ MRes[Med] ☒ URIS

Objective and Significance:

The project is to dissect the interaction between the surface proteins VP1, VP2 and VP3 of enterovirus with a newly identified cellular surface protein, hWARS. The findings will help increase the understanding of enterovirus pathogenesis.

Research Plan and Methodology:

Students will learn the design the protein expression system;
Different assays to investigate the protein-protein interactions both in vivo and in vitro;
How cellular surface proteins interact with viral proteins for effective cell entry.
