Research Projects
Elucidate leukaemogenesis and development of novel therapy of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia

Programme(s) to which this project applies:

☑ MPhil/PhD ☒ MRes[Med] ☒ URIS

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia has inferior prognosis in adult patients and relapse/refractory disease has dismal outcomes. This project will elucidate the leukaemogensis of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia by various techniques including bulk and single cell multiomic analysis, animal models. Also, we will develop novel therapy based on the findings. The results will enhance our understanding of molecular pathogenesis of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and develop various more effective treatment to this disease.

Professor CF Sin, Department of Pathology

Professor Albert Sin Chun-fung joined the Department of Pathology of HKU since 2017. He is a specialist haematopathologist focusing on basic and translational research about leukaemia.

His current major theme of research is acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, with the focus in studying leukaemogenesis and development of novel therapies. Our team had reported the novel mechanism of bortezomib in treating acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. We are actively working on studying leukaemogenesis by various animal model system and techniques, including multiomics analysis. Moreover, our group is actively working on the study to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and molecular mechanism of homoharringtonine in treating acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
