HKUMed Visual Identity

The HKU LKS Faculty of Medicine visual identity is composed of three elements: the HKU Badge, the Acronym (“HKU Med”) and the bilingual Logotype (“LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong 香港大學李嘉誠醫學院”).

The identity adopts a typographic approach, forming a clear visual brand for the HKU LKS Faculty of Medicine. Its typographic nature is both concise and contemporary, and can be applied to a wide variety of media, facilitating consistency of branding.

Usage of the Faculty/ Departmental logos are bounded by the user guidelines. The guidelines have been drawn up to ensure that the use of the Faculty's name and logos are accurate and appropriate, and that such use signifies institutional accountability. The logos have been carefully designed and should never be altered in any way.

To ensure consistency and brand conformance, you are advised to clear all promotional materials with the Faculty’s Knowledge Exchange and Faculty Advancement Team. Draft materials should be submitted to hkumedbrand@hku.hk. Kindly allow at least 3 working days of turnaround time for each submission.

Use of the Faculty’s Name and Visual Identity
Aims

The guidelines seek to clarify the use of the HKU LKS Faculty of Medicine name and logo for members of the Faculty, the University, and the public. They have been drawn up to ensure that the use of the Faculty's name and logo are accurate and appropriate, and that such use signifies institutional accountability.

It is understandable that the Faculty's name and logo will be used extensively and under different circumstances. Hence, this set of general principles and guidelines may not comprehensively cover all cases. If in doubt, those who apply for use of Faculty logo should seek advice from the Faculty.

Guidelines

A general set of guidelines have been drafted to ensure the consistent use of the Faculty logo:

  • The primary signature is the HKU Badge with Acronym and Logotype. It should only be used in the horizontal lock-up. When the primary signature is not practical for your graphic requirements, a secondary signature (HKU Badge with Acronym or Acronym only) may be used.
  • The primary signature has been spaced for ease of legibility for use on various applications, and should never be re-created or modified.
  • All forms of signature (both primary and secondary) should only be presented in either Black or White.
  • Sufficient clear space must be given to all forms of signature to prevent visual overcrowding and erroneous association with other organizations.
  • The primary signature should always be positioned in the top left-hand corner of applications; the clearspace should be adjusted accordingly depending on size of applications.
  • Incorrect usage includes any changes in colours, typefaces, and proportion that deviate from the standard signature.

Application for Use of Faculty Logo

To ensure the consistency in the use of the Faculty’s identity, members of the Faculty that wish to use the Logo in print and/or electronic media are invited to fill in the application form for access to high resolution artwork files. (Note: this e-form is only accessible on the campus cable network or through the HKUVPN.)

Usage of the Faculty/ Departmental logos are bounded by the user guidelines. The guidelines have been drawn up to ensure that the use of the Faculty's name and logos are accurate and appropriate, and that such use signifies institutional accountability.
