New record: HKUMed has 31 academics listed as ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2023’

A record 31 academics from the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) were recently named ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2023’ by Clarivate Analytics. This prestigious recognition is awarded to researchers who demonstrated significant and broad influence in their respective fields of research through the production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in their field and publication year from 2012 to 2022. Earlier, 75 academics from HKUMed were listed among the world's top 2% of scientists in 2023 by Stanford University. This international recognition is testament to the overall research and academic strengths of HKUMed scholars.

Professor Lau Chak-sing, Dean of Medicine, extended his heartfelt congratulations to his fellow researchers for their exceptional achievements and emphasised that these accolades are points of pride, resulting from years of effort and dedication. Expressing his delight, he stated, ‘I am pleased that HKUMed has achieved a new record with the highest number of scholars being recognised this year. These honours acknowledge the relentless pursuit of excellence by our researchers, who have made significant contributions to advancing medical knowledge and making a wide and profound impact in their respective fields. It also underscores the leadership position of HKUMed in international medical research.’

Looking ahead, Professor Lau expressed his vision and stated that HKUMed will continue to provide resources and support, foster a vibrant research environment and attract top-tier talent to fulfil its mission to provide world-class education and make a substantial contribution to both the local and international medical sectors. HKUMed will spare no effort to facilitate the practical application of research findings that have a lasting impact on society.
