HKU-CTC 20th Anniversary Ceremony & Gala Dinner

07 November 2018

The Clinical Trials Centre’s (HKU-CTC) 20th Anniversary Ceremony and Gala Dinner was held on November 7, 2018. The event was the grand finale of a series of anniversary activities throughout 2018 and was a great success. Approximately 200 prominent officials, academicians, healthcare practitioners, clinical research professionals and industry representatives joined the event. Attendees were treated to a review of HKU-CTC’s 20-year journey of ground-breaking clinical research and gave their heartfelt greetings in Loke Yew Hall, a historic landmark of HKU.

Professor Karen Lam Siu-ling, Chairman of HKU-CTC, kick-started the ceremony by expressing her gratitude to the various stakeholders in clinical research present at the welcoming address. The guests of honour, Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR Government, and Professor Paul Tam Kwong-hang, then Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of HKU, highlighted the importance of clinical research to healthcare and scientific advancement. They additionally applauded HKUCTC’s contributions to the Hong Kong and global society over the past 20 years.

A highlight of the evening was the engaging and interactive panel discussion featuring five distinguished HKU clinical researchers (by alphabetical order of their last names): Professor Chan Tak-mao, Professor Bernard Cheung Man-yung, Professor Lai Ching-lung, Professor Lau Yu-lung and Professor Hextan Ngan Yuen-sheung. Together they gave an overview of the history of clinical research over the past decades, shared their insights on future research trends and discussed opportunities for Hong Kong’s clinical research community.
