HKUMAA organised an Alumni Day on December 17, 2011 to commemorate the University’s 100th anniversary and to allow both overseas and local alumni to learn about the latest developments at the Medical Faculty. Programmes included guided tours, an exhibition of the Medical Faculty’s history and achievements, and a display of class photos and publications. A homecoming reception was held the same afternoon, with HKUMAA President Professor NK Leung and Dean of Medicine Professor SP Lee welcoming visitors. Over 120 alumni and their family and friends attended.
The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Golf Tournament was held at The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Golf Course on November 30, 2011. The winner of the HKU Medical Alumni Cup was Dr Ma Chan Chung (馬燦忠) (MBBS 1982).
HKUMAA Young Alumni Gathering (October 15, 2011)
Over 40 alumni and friends tasted some of the finest tea from around the world at the Leaf Tea Boutique in Central on October 15, 2011. Organised for young graduates by the HKU Medical Alumni Association (HKUMAA), the event proved a great occasion for socialising, with most participants from Classes 2005 to 2010. Highlights included sharing by senior members and a lucky draw for HKU and Faculty souvenirs.
On July 21, 2011, Professor Joseph Sung (沈祖堯), MBBS 1983 graduate and currently the Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong gave a talk entitled "Teaching on Values in Medical Education" immediately after the 11th AGM. During his inspiring presentation, Professor Sung recounted how he witnessed his teachers at the Medical Faculty providing a great living example where "patient care was a dedication, research was a passion and teaching was an enjoyment". He also shared his personal reflections on medical education and advocated a change in the atmosphere across the profession by emphasising values and ethics in teaching. Over 80 alumni, faculty members and guests attended.
To celebrate the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit, over 150 alumni, family members and friends gathered at the Kiangsu Chekiang & Shanghai Residents (HK) Association Restaurant for the HKUMAA Spring Dinner on February 25, 2011. Orgnanised annually since 2009, the Spring Dinner is a wonderful occasion for alumni of different generations to reunite and renew ties. Special thanks to the Executive Committee and Programme Subcommittee members for contributing the lucky draw gifts for this festive gathering.
